Gainesville - Mrs. Zelma L. Handley, 87, died in Gainesville, FL on Saturday, March 28, 2009. She was born July 5, 1921 in Rochelle, GA. Moved to the Central Florida area in 1959 from Lawton, OK. Mrs. Handley enjoyed country western music, reading, dancing and bowling. She was very proud of the fact that her sons graduated from the University of Florida. Mrs. Handley was a homemaker, the hardest job of all. Mrs. Handley was of the Baptist Faith, a member of the Oak Griner Baptist Church. She is survived by: her son's Jerry Handley of Gainesville, FL and Larry D. Handley of Oviedo, FL, 4 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. There will be a graveside service on Friday April 3, 2009 At 11:00 AM with Rev. Frank Grant, officiating at Highland Memorial Park, 1515 NE 3rd Street, Ocala, FL 34471, arrangements by Heirs-Baxley Funeral Services, Ocala Chapel.

MRS. GATSIE HANNAH

Mrs. Gatsie Elizabeth Odom Hannah, 80, resident of 572 Richmond St., died unexpectedly Friday night, She was born in, Wilcox County, but had lived in Macon for the past two years. She was a member of the Christian Home Baptist Church in Wilcox County.

            Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Stella Roach and Mrs. Zelma Holliday, Macon, Mrs. Velma Evridge, Byron, Mrs. Nadine Blackstock, Ocala, Fla., Mrs. Tilda Silcox, Weirsdale, Fla., Mrs. Mary Portier, Fernandina Beach, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Katie Mullis, Macon; two sons, William T. Hannah, Byron, J. R. Hannah, Rochelle, two stepsons, Newton Hannah, Ambrose, Murdock Hannah Miami, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Becky Odom, Vienna; 38 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren, and also a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p. m. in the Christian Home Baptist Church in Wilcox County. The Rev. Sammy J. Rhodes and Rev. LeRoy Clack will officiate and burial I will be in the Smith Cemetery in Wilcox County.

Pallbearers will he grandsons: Morvin Hannah, Bobby Evridge, WendelI Portier, Edwin Mullis, Darrell Evridge, and William Holliday.

Horton-Ivey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

SUMMERFIELD, Fla.
Henry D. Hannah, 59, died Wednesday in an Ocala, Fla hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery.
     Mr. Hannah, a native of Wilcox County, had lived in Summerfield 25 years. He was a retired roofer.
     Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marquita Hannah of Summerfield; a daughter, Miss Susan Leanne Hannah of Summerfield; two sons, James D. Hannah and Clarence J. Hannah, both of Summerfield; two sisters, Mrs. John A. Lovette and Mrs. Mack Walker, both of Rochelle; a brother, Jack Hannah of Miami, Fla.

     ROCHELLE - James R. "Bud" Hannah, 72, of Route 1 died Monday in a local hospital.
    Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Frazier & Son Funeral Home in Rochelle. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery in Rochelle. The Revs. Emmett McDuffie and Harris Johnson will officiate.
     A native of Wilcox County, Mr. Hannah was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a member of the DAV, Chapter 39-Dewey L. Johnson. He was also a retired farmer.
      Survivors include three sons, Ruben Hannah of Rochelle, James Robert Hannah of Fitzgerald and Jack Hannah of Rebecca; two daughters, Quinnelle Coker of Fitzgerald and Julia Hood of Buford; his brother William Hannah of Byron; four sisters, Tildia Silcox of Weirsdale, Fla, Zelma Holliday of Macon, Velma Evridge and Stella Roache, both of Byron; and five grandchildren.
      The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight in the funeral home.

William Taylor Hannah - Byron, GA - William Taylor Hannah, age 82, of 147 Mills Circle, Byron, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, October 27, 2007 in the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. David Clark will officiate. Mr. Hannah was born in Wilcox County and was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church, Rochelle. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base. Survivors include his wife, Emmie C. Hannah of Byron; stepchildren, Edward Linton of Lake Sinclair, Josephine Oyarzabal of Mountain Home, Idaho; several step-grandchildren; sisters, Tilda Silcox of Weirsdale, FL, Velma Evridge of Byron, Stella Roache of Byron; several nieces and nephews. Contributions in Mr. Hannah's name may be made to the Christian Home Baptist Church, c/o Betty Carol Helms, 527 Christian Hill Road, Rochelle, GA. ABBEVILLE - Funeral services for Dewey M. Holliday, 58, of Pitts, who died Thursday in a Vienna hospital, were held 3:3 O p.m. today in leasant

View Baptist Church.

         The Rev. A. T. Faircloth, the Rev. George L. Griffin and the Rev. L. R, Meadows officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery.

         Mr. Holiday, a native of Wilcox County-, was a farmer. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

         Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nina Collins Holiday of Pitts;  one daughter, Mrs. Calvin Mays of Findleyson ; one son, Roger Holliday of Pineview; brother, Floyd E. Holiday of Macon; two sisters, Mrs. A. S. Allen and Mrs. Grady Massey, both of Cordele; and four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

FINAL RITES FOR EARL THOMAS HOLLIDAY

    Final rites for Earl Thomas Holliday, 44, were conducted from the Union Baptist Church, the Rev. Millard Bennett officiating. Interment was in the churchyard.

    Mr. Holliday was the son of the late W. A. Holliday and Mrs. Mary A. Holliday. He was a native of Wilcox county, and a member of the Baptist church.

    Survivors are: his wife, four children; Carolyn, William, June Holliday, Pitts; and Mrs. George Barker, Columbus; two sisters: Mrs. A. F. Allen and Mrs. W.G. Massey, Cordele; two brothers, Dewey Hollliday, Pitts, Sgt. Floyd E. Holliday, U. S. Army.

    Pall bearers were Charlie Clements, Kim Varnadoe, L. Faircloth, Thomas Holliday, Tyron Yawn, and Grady Watson.

    The Ellis quartet, Cordele, conducted the music, and Dorsey Funeral Home, Abbeville, was in charge.

     Police Chief Freed in Killing At Abbeville
              Constitution State News Service
ABBEVILLE, Oct. 31 - Police Chief James Horton, who was placed in jail following the Tuesday slaying of Earl Holliday, of Rochelle, was exonerated Friday in the killing at a commitment hearing.
     Chief Horton Tuesday arrested Holliday and Ernest Ball, but agreed to release the men on bond with the provision they leave town. Horton said the men returned to town later in the day and called him out at his home.  The Chief said an argument ensued and he shot at Holliday in self defense.
     The hearing was conducted by four Justices of the Peace, E. T. Dunaway, T.L.W. MacDonald, Arthur Carsons and Maxwell Lasseter, who ruled that the Police Chief was justified in shooting at Holliday.

Last Rites for Mrs. Mary Holliday
     Mrs. Mary A. Holliday died at her home near PItts, Monday, June 28.
      She was the widow of the late Will A. Holliday. She had lived at the same place for thirty years.
       She leaves three sons: E.L. and D.M. Holliday, Pitts; P.E. Holliday of the U.S. Navy; two daughters, Mrs. W. G. Massey, Abbeville, and Mrs. A.F. Allen, of PItts; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
        She was a member of Union Baptist Church, and had been for 50 years.
       The funeral service was held at Union Church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. M.J. Bennett, her pastor assisted by Rev. R.G. Braziel. The Ellis quartette, of Cordele, furnished the music. Burial was in the family lot in the cemetery there.
      She was 67 years old and was born in Wilcox County and had lived in the county all her life.
      Pall bearers were: Jim Champion, Chas. Champion, John Champion, Thomas Champion, Ashley Faircloth, and Jim Yawn.
      Dorsey Funeral Home of Abbeville, was in charge.

     VIENNA- William. E. "Bill" Holliday, age 63, Vienna died Thursday in an Albany hospital.
     Born in Rochelle, he was the son of the late Earl Thomas Holliday and Zelma Hannah Holliday. He worked at Pactiv Corporation in Macon. Bill was a devoted family man and love helping others. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
     Survivors: wife Marilyn A. Holliday of Vienna; son Lee Holliday (Sharon) of Bonaire; daughters, Lisa Sunderman (Patrick) of Byron; Lara Moore (Bob) of Byron; stepson Wade Williams of Unadilla; stepdaughter Dawn Fletcher (Bobby) of Unadilla; sisters, Carolyn Wyant (Bob) of Colorado Springs, CO; June Wilkerson (Melvin) of Rochelle; ten grandchildren.
     His granddaughter, Kelsey Dianne Weeks, preceded him in death.
     Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday in Christian Home Baptist Church near Rochelle. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
     The family will greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association, c/o Betty Warbington, 3200 Tippettville Road, Vienna, GA 31092 or to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132 Fairfax, VA 22038-1132.

     Funeral services for Mrs. Fred (Maude Stanley) Hughes were conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 17, from Arbor Baptist Church.
     Mrs. Hughes died Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in Ben Hill County Hospital.
     Rev. I. R. Hobby officiated at the services with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery.
     Born Aug. 30, 1901, in Wilcox County, Mrs. Hughes was the daughter of Anna Mary Powell [sic; should be Rowell] and Jesse E. Stanley.  She had lived in Fitzgerald since 1940.
     Survivors include her husband, Fred Hughes, Fitzgerlad; three sons, Milton Gibbs, Ocala, Fla.; Clifford Gibbs, Waycross, and S/Sgt. Billy Gibbs, Robins A.F.B.; two daughters, Mrs. Marie Futch, Rochelle; Mrs. Mildred Spears, Macon; two sisters, Mrs. Butal [sic; should be Berta] Rooks, Panama City, Fla. and Mrs. Cora Bellflower, Tifton; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Notes from submitter:  My great-grandmother, Maude Carrie Stanley, was born on 30 Aug 1901 in Wilcox Co., GA, the daughter of Jesse Exela "Oliver" Stanley & Mary Anna (Rowell) Stanley.  She married my grandfather, Henry Ezekiel Gibbs, on 1 July 1916 in Wilcox Co., GA.  He died on 23 Oct 1949 in Fitzgerald, Ben Hill Co., GA and she then married Fred Hughes on 10 June 1951 in Ben Hill Co., GA.  Maude's grandparents were William Henry Stanley & Mary Matildy (Sexton) Stanley of Dooly Co., GA and John R. Rowell & Margaret E. Shirey of Dooly Co., GA.

Uriah Simon Keen, 85, of Winter Haven, died of heart failure on Saturday, April 9, 2005, at the Life Care Center in Winter Haven.
He was a native of Abbeville, Ga., who moved to Winter Haven in 1947.

He was a truck driver and a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Abbeville.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Keen of Winter Haven; a daughter, Johnnynell Baxter of Fort Myers; a son, Drew Keen of Lakeland; three sisters, Faustine Sherfield of Fitzgerald, Ga., Francis Mattox of Fitzgerald and Irene Hawkins of Hawkinsville, Ga.; and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Central Florida Casket Store and Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be in Rochelle, Ga., at the Frazier and Son Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Dudley H. Lacey, Sr., age 67, of Rt. 6, Cassidy Road, will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 1977 at Dekle Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Doyle C. Smith of Moultrie, the Rev. Melvin Kuhn and the Rev. A.T. Moye, with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Lacey passed away Monday, May 2, 1977 at Archbold Hospital after an extended illness. A farmer and retired carpenter, Mr. Lacey was born Aug. 16, 1909 in Wilcox County, son of Seaborn and Minnie Henderson Lacey. He lived most of his adult life in Thomas County. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist faith. He was married Feb. 19, 1928 to the former Frances Adams, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lois Eddings, Mrs. Frances Dene Croft, Mrs. Ruby Whiddon, Thomasville; Mrs. Mary Odom, Douglasville; four sons, Coy Lacey, Tifton; Earl C. Lacey, Quitman; Waymon M. Lacey, Hernando, Fla.; D.H. (Buddy) Lacey, Moultrie; a brother, Lodge Lacey, Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Eula Bruce, Dixie; 29 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services for Frances D. Lacey; 88 of Thomasville, are at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel.
The Rev. Jimmy Love will officiate, and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Lacey died Monday; April 24, 2000 at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
Born April 20,1912, in Wilcox County, Ga., .she was a daughter of John Frank Adams and Nettie E. Mitchell Adams, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was married to Dudley Hughes Lacey Sr., who also preceded her in death in 1997, on Feb. 19, 1928 in Wilcox County.
She was a homemaker, retired from Archbold Hospital and a member of the Nazarene Church. Survivors include sons, Coy Lacey of Tifton, Earl Lacey of Quitman, Dudley Hugh Lacey Jr. of Moultrie; daughters Lois Lacey Eddings, Dene Croft both of Thomasville, Mary Lacey Odom of Villa Rica, Ruby Lacey Dove of Tallahassee, Fla.; sister, Ethel McDuffie of Rochelle; 30 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Waymon Mitchell Lacey. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.

    James R. Lacey, age 78, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. B. Coffee, 1031 Albany avenue, following an extended illness.
    The body will be sent to Rochelle where funeral and interment will take place tomorrow, Friday afternoon, at 4 o’clock. Interment will be in the family burial ground at Christian Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Rev. J. M. Lumpkin, officiating.
    The deceased is a retired farmer, but has made his home here for the past four years.
    The survivors include: two sons J. W. Lacey of Waycross and J. H. Lacey of Rochelle; two daughters: Mrs. J. B. Coffee of Waycross and Mrs. S. M. Wilson of Barnesville; one brother, Seab Lacey of Pine View; two sisters Mrs. Martha Dozier and Mrs. Patsy Ball, both of Rochelle.
    W. L. Hinson and Company are the directors in charge of arrangements.
