Brief History of the 49th Regiment, Georgia Infantry

Organized in November, 1861.
-
The 49th saw action in
the campaigns from Seven Pines to Cold Harbor, fought in Petersburg and
Appomattox.
-
It reported 68 casualties at Second Manassas and 61 at
Fredericksburg.
-
They suffered a thirteen percent loss of 280 men at Chancellorville
and more that twenty five percent
of the 329 at Gettysburg.
-
When the war ended 8 officers and 103 men
surrendered.
