Brief History of 10th Regiment, Georgia Infantry

  • Organized at Jonesboro, GA June 1861 from the counties of Clayton, Chattahoochee, DeKalb,
     Wilcox, Bibb, Richmond, Fayette and Pulaski.

  • Engagements included the Seven Days' Battles, Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Early's
     Shenandoah Valley, and Appomattox.

  • The regiment suffered heavy losses at Savage Station where it lose seventeen percent of the 345 men.

  • In Crampton's Gap, they suffered a thirty four percent loss of the 174 men.

  • In Sharpsburg they lost fifty six percent of the 148 men.

  • Chancellorville saw 23 killed and 105 wounded.

  • Thirty two percent of the 303 who saw action at Gettysburg were killed wounded or missing.

  • Only 2 officers and 48 men surrendered in April, 1865.
